Why Our Desired Transformation Could be Within Reach.

FocusSoon after the publication of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century in March last year, it was read by one of the senior officials of the Ministry of Education. He was mesmerized by the concept, which aims to help readers to transit from 20th to 21st Century mental paradigms. This will eventually help them to unleash their full performance potential, not only as individuals, but also for their employing organizations and the national situation as well. This may definitely, impact positively to desired national transformation, will it not?

In this light in perspective, the senior officer advised that we visit the offices of the 4 senior most officers in the ministry, book appointments and make presentations to them on the book concept.  Unfortunately, the efforts were in vain as none of the officers seemed interested.

However, 2 months thereafter, one of the directors in the ministry called for a copy of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century. She indicated that she was preparing a program on de-radicalization of the youth and thought she could get useful ideas from the book. The book was delivered to her office on May 19th 2015 and a few days later, she confirmed that she had indeed acquired what she wanted. “We will definitely recommend the book to the authorities,” she insinuated.

Thereafter, the book continued finding its own path in secondary schools, churches, organizations and various universities. One particular University that has 2 campuses, based in Nairobi, and another in the outskirts, requested to review a copy of the book. Upon being satisfied, they appealed for discount before deciding on the purchase.  Asked why they were insisting on discount, yet others are okay with the price, they had some interesting ideas.

Librarian: This book is authored by a local and published locally. Why would it be priced like an international publication?
We: Others have no problem with the content and price of the book. However, you don’t have to acquire it if uncomfortable. But, should you find any other publication addressing the same challenges as Career Dynamics in the 21st Century, please let us know and we will engage in appropriate discussions.

Two months thereafter, the university requested for a pro-former invoice for several copies of the book, which was provided. Another 2 months afterwards, the purchase order was ready, after which we delivered the books as desired.

Meanwhile, matters of the book had eventually reached the right offices in the government. Exactly one year after publication, KICD, the technical arm of the Ministry of Education called for a copy of the book, aiming to subject it to the vetting process.  The feedback was rather interesting and almost unexpected. “We knew the direction needed for our education system. But, we didn’t know the how to, until reading Career-Dynamics in the 21st Century,” said the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Research Director.

Is it then not a great moment witnessing Career Dynamics in the 21st Century becoming a tool for guiding the education system, especially during the deliberation and implementation of a revised school curriculum that is geared towards delivering this nation to the talent era of the 21st Century? This must be great re-assurance for those who have acquired and read a copy of the book. What about you who may not have had a chance? How about empowerment of your teams with the respective short seminars or fully fledged training solutions?
