Being Strategic in Thought and Positioning Will Yield Desired Progress in 2014

During November/December 2013, I have conducted 3 seminars revolving around Strategic Thinking, Business Planning and Management of change. Though the ideals of the programs are largely in relation to the conduct of business, it is important to continually remember that any business is a person just like each one of us.

The only difference is that we are natural, whereas business is an artificial person. This artificial person can never achieve anything on his/her own. The person must inevitably therefore rely on us for the conduct of business. The tasks include walking, communicating, hearing, seeing and so on, just as is expected of each of us.

Essentially, our strategic focus and positioning which depend on skills levels, attitudes as well as knowledge will all come into play. In any case, they all control our responses to the occurrences around us. No doubt, they will also determine not only personal successes, but also that of the organizations that we work for. So, the more focused we are, the higher the chances of exploiting the opportunities in the environment around us, not only on our own behalf, but also for respective organizations.

Apparently, the organizations that we work for resemble small vessels operating in the deep sea. All of them are heading to a place called “success,” whose exact location is not known. The environment contains many other vessels, some huge and others small, all competing for space and opportunities to expand their paths and territories – yes, there are no exclusive territories for each.

Alongside, there are sharks, which at no notice will endeavor to sink our vessels not only for intruding into their territories, but also in their search for the requisite prey – no doubt, we could be the targets.  It is in the same environment that you will find sea pirates and other human terrorists that continually make nightmares of the sailing experience.

Thus, there is on one hand the likelihood of being annihilated or sunk by other vessels, either on purpose or accidental collisions. Alternatively, there are the chances of being decimated by not only the sea sharks as well as other sea creatures, but also the sea pirates and other human terrorists.  The truth is that this is how business operates.  We are in the midst of all the challenges occasioned by the dynamic forces of change. Notably, they are presented to us by the competition and other factors, some of which are beyond our control. But, can we afford to ignore them?

When the organizations that we work for are threatened by these forces of change, our situations are not any better. This is so because we are the ones expected to act on behalf of the organizations. We are naturally required to strategize on how to battle these forces of change, irrespective of our organizational positions.

Indeed, we are each required to effectively contribute to the search for progress one way or the other.  For that to happen successfully, we need to have the right skills, attitudes and knowledge. Above all, we need to be strategic in our thinking. That helps us to not only strategically position ourselves, but also understand the tested counter-strategies of fighting the various forces of change.

Are you prepared for the confrontations with the inevitable forces of change in 2014? Whatever the situation, you may invaluably benefit from structured learning that helps in transforming the way we perceive and exploit the opportunities around us.  The same also help in combating the various forces of change, not only in our personal situations, but also on behalf of the organizations that we work for.

For a start, you are welcome to our one day personal strategy course titled “Continually Working Smart and on Purpose Seminar.”  Here, you learn how to position yourself towards efficiently and effectively reaping the best from the opportunities arising in the year 2014 and beyond.
