Re-thinking the Place of Money In 2016 and Beyond

MoneyChapter 7 of the book Career Dynamics in the 21st Century explains how money should be the last thing on our minds. All you need is to give value to the marketplace, a process  which is later followed by the desired money. Many people have questioned this assertion until internalizing the wisdom in the said chapter. Nothing illustrates this more than some recent experiences, worth sharing, especially if guided by the realization that the principles are the same whether big or small-time money.

During a Young Professionals’ Forum at St. Andrews PCEA Church, Nairobi, on Saturday, 21st November, 2015, we amongst many others met two youngsters. Karanja deals in property and said that he had no fixed contacts. Kamau is a beautician based somewhere at the ever busy and crowded bus station. The two were separately attracted to “Career Dynamics in the 21st Century” and pleaded to acquire it, but be allowed to pay later by M-Pesa. Both gentlemen pledged their trustworthiness and provided only their phone numbers as security.

The next Thursday, Kamau the beautician had not only been empowered through the book, but also remitted the respective dues as promised. Karanja’s case was slightly different. On Monday the agreed day of payment, he remitted half the value of the agreed dues, but promised to clear the balance later. Occasional re-assurance continued until Tuesday 5th January 2016, when he cleared the full amount.

Secondly, while worshiping at Thome PCEA Church on Sunday 22nd November 2015; many families acquired copies of “Career Dynamics in the 21st Century,” after listening to the Author’s 10 minutes presentation on talent alignment strategy in the 21st Century. However, eventual feedback from one family stood out. Njoroge, their last-born of 4 children, now in class 8, found the book in the sitting room and took it away.

He only revealed the book’s whereabouts after surprisingly reading the same. More still, he started sharing his lessons with the rest of the family, while at the same time urging them to read for themselves. Incidentally, nobody would have thought that the book would attract even a single primary school student.

Thirdly, while attending Kagumo Old Boys Association dinner on Friday 27th November 2015, Jackson, one alumni shared his challenges right from exam performance to an eventually difficult academic/career alignment process. Finally, he became a telecommunications Engineer. His story is one of hope, resilience and determination. Upon congratulating him for his feats, it became very tempting to ask him whether he would want his children to experience the same. To this, his reply was an emphatic no.

Subsequently, a copy of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century was presented to him. He appreciated it and indicated that he would pay for it after the weekend. But, by Lunchtime, Saturday 28th November the Engineer had read the book substantially and decided to pay for it immediately. “I didn’t see the need for keeping the money, upon skimming through the book,’ said Jackson. What can one say? Can you now see why it has been easy to let money become the last item in our minds as advocated in Chapter 7 of Career Dynamics in the 21st Century?

Subsequently, as we continue interacting in the year 2016, there is one issue that you may need to ponder on. If you are a young professional, would you be interested in charting an exciting, rewarding and sustainable career path?   If you are a parent of secondary school or university students, would it not be exciting helping them to chart well defined and sustainably rewarding career paths? All you need is to acquire, embrace and implement the principles advocated in Career Dynamics in the 21st Century. The principles are not only practical but also time tested as is well illustrated in the book.
