Amazing Re-Branding For Successful Continuity
Our activities in the month of August 2015 were rather fascinating. In addition to usual corporate training and consulting engagements, the book “Career Dynamics in the 21st Century,” has continued attracting new and initially unexpected human capital development opportunities, especially through the church.
The teachings in the book have continued resonating well, even with the men of the Collar, some of whom have not hesitated calling us for mentorship sessions. Recent examples have included ACK All Sts. Cathedral Church, Nairobi – Men’s fellowship; PCEA Zimmerman Church – Presbyterian Christian Men Fellowship (PCMF); ACK St James Church – Youth Fellowship and PEFA Church, Thome – Youth Fellowship. The discussions have revolved around confronting the challenges of the 21st Century as well as making informed career choices, which is now proven to be the source of most of the challenges of our times.
In one of the forums, it was particularly exciting upon coincidentally meeting with one Human Resource Executive, this time wearing the cap of a church elder. It was emotionally moving listening to his testimony of how we have been engaged, for training and consulting solutions since 2008, by his previous and current employer. It therefore pays to continually delight customers and safeguard our brands, since we can’t be sure when and where we shall encounter the same customers next.
In another incidence, a professor acquired and read “Career Dynamics in the 21st Century,” and instantly invited us to participate in an exhibition that was taking place in their university. There was so much to learn and discuss during the two days. The case of Thika based Margaret, a 54 year old mother of 4 (boys and Girls) was particularly inspiring and is shared with her express authority.
The lady’s studies were cut short by early motherhood after only two years, in secondary school. Soon, she acquired 3 more children and somehow ended up as a single mother. Luckily Margaret never lost hope and hassled over the years, until she was able to educate the 4 children, who are now adults, some having their own families.
But, as fate would have it, Margaret was not satisfied with the feat of bringing up 4 responsible children. She felt the need to contribute more to the improvement of the welfare of humanity, as is expected of each of us. More still, she needed to be economically active and relevant in the society for the rest of time. Unfortunately, the Lady’s limited education had not prepared her adequately for these expectations.
In this regard, Margaret appealed to her children, to “repay the debt of caring for, and educating them.” That would be through helping the mother, to upgrade her education. The excited children had no qualms joining hands towards educating their now knowledge hungry mother.
In 2007, Margaret joined a Thika based secondary school, which accommodates evening classes for adults, especially those variously engaged during the day time. Within 2 years or so, the now elated lady sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and acquired good grades, something that opened a new window in her life.
“I shared my joy of continued learning with my children. It thereafter became easy to convince them to sponsor me for a Diploma in counseling psychology, which took me two years,” Margaret continues volunteering.
The burg of acquiring new knowledge had not yet done with a now re-branded Margaret. In 2015, she has finally concluded her studies and is only waiting to formally graduate with a degree in counseling psychology, from Tangaza University College, Thika, a constituent college of the Catholic University of East Africa.
Interestingly, she has recently secured counseling assignments, especially in the rehabilitation centers, which are taking care of reformed alcohol and drug addicts across the central region.
“My children have now repaid their debt and I will now work towards sponsoring myself for a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, “says a confident and re-energized Margaret. Truly, our attitudes and career alignments determine our altitudes as carefully articulated in Career Dynamics in the 21st Century and freshly backed by the case of the re-branded single mother of four.
